  • Reckless Kelly's Bold and Bulletproof Style
"Aaarrgghhh! ...ye have reached Willy's voicemail. Unfortunately, the old Captain Morgan has ordered me on his vessel for a trip on the high seas ... Leave a message at the sound of the Aaarrgghhh ... Aaarrgghhh!"

  • HOT DISH: The New Year Will Be Good for Country Music
Here we go again. Hacks and flaks ... drinking, scratching and opinionating. There are those who always groan and moan, "Worst year of music ever." Then there are the copycats who sit around sipping their booze while agreeing with anyone who seems to be

  • Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift Still Crest Country Music Charts
As we swing into 2009, Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift continue to top Billboard's country albums and country songs charts, respectively. Flatts' "Here" has held the songs summit for two weeks, while Swift's Fearless has been welded to No. 1

  • Taylor Swift Was America's Best-selling Album Artist of 2008
Although overall U.S. music sales were up in 2008 -- with more than 1.5 billion albums, singles, music videos and digital tracks sold -- album sales alone dropped an average of 14 percent across all recorded musical formats.

  • NASHVILLE: SKYLINE: The New Depression: "Who Do We Shoot?"
I know it's such a clich by now, but I suspect that there are many national policy makers and business and industry leaders who are simply unaware of the old (and oft-misquoted) George Santayana quote.

Monthly meeting of the Central Oregon Writers Guild
Local Book Store Owner, Tina Davis to Present “How to Promote Your Book the Right Way” to Central Oregon Writers Guild Redmond, Oregon, September 17, 2008. Learning how to approach book sellers to promote your book is hard for most writers as they tend to be introverts. Tina Davis, owner of Camalli Books, Bend, has just returned from the Pacific Northwest Book Sellers conference where she sat in on a lot of discussions about how small press authors should approach book sellers. She’ll offer what she learned when she presents “How to Promote Your Book the Right Way” at the October 23rd Central Oregon Writers Guild meeting. Davis states, “One topic that keeps coming up here (PNW conference) is how bookstores are increasingly inundated by books from self-published authors.” She added, “I've listened in a lot and hopefully will have something to contribute … in terms of how to approach bookstores in a way that is of mutual benefit.” Davis has a degree in Journalism and was a reporter and anchor at KVAL in Eugene in the early 90s. She moved into promotional writing, first for a financial firm and then for the publishing industry. Before opening the bookstore she ran her own business as a promotional writer for educational publishers. After 10 years in publishing she opened Camalli Books on the west side of Bend and just celebrated the store's one year anniversary in August. Central Oregon Writers Guild is a group of established and aspiring writers, who meet at 6:30 PM on the fourth Thursday of each month for a writing-related presentation, refreshments and a critique session. The meeting takes place at the Redmond Library, 827 SW Deschutes, Redmond, Oregon. Visitors and prospective members are welcome. For more information about the meeting or critique groups, call 388-0836.
